The Andrews Labor government and the Glen Eira City Council are proceeding with a so called “Caulfield” structure plan that that includes planning controls on a site – 966 Princes Highway, Carnegie. This piece of land between the Princes Highway and the sky rail that crosses Grange Road proposes a 12 and possibly 13 storey tower that will certainly shade properties as far south as McPherson Avenue. The overshadowing will be particularly severe as the shadow lengthens approaching the winter solstice.
The Andrews Labor government did not properly consult, calling the planning instrument the “Caulfield” structure plan even though it is in Carnegie. Few local residents are aware of the plan for a tall tower near them.
The matter will be considered at council on Tuesday 20 September.
