Between the 21st of July and the 28th of September 2019, a period of 70 days, the Ashburton police station had police personnel actually present on just 13 days, less than 19% of the 70 days of police rosters I have obtained under Freedom of Information. This information can be viewed here.
Police actually present at Ashburton less than 20% of the time is simply not good enough. I can only hope that no-one is seriously injured or, God forbid, killed as a result of not having an adequate police presence in Ashburton. Under the former Coalition Government between 2010 to 2014, the Ashburton Police Station was upgraded and fully manned.
With drug related crime, home invasions and car jackings on the rise and becoming almost commonplace, we need police on the beat and police stations actually manned
