Justin Madden’s stated intention to become Premier of Victoria is another reminder to Victorians that instead of punishing those involved in the Brimbank corruption scandal, Labor is intent on rewarding them.
“Hakki Suleyman has already been promoted to a key Labor position responsible for electing Labor’s national executive – now Justin Madden will be given a plum Lower House seat and an armchair ride to replace John Brumby as Premier,” Shadow Minister responsible for Scrutiny of Government David Davis said today.
“This is enormously destabilising to John Brumby’s leadership,” Mr Davis said.
“Justin Madden is the first Labor MP to declare his leadership intentions since John Brumby took over as Leader, and Mr Madden made no mention of John Brumby in his declaration this morning.
“It’s one thing to move to a Lower House seat, but Justin Madden’s declaration of his leadership intentions in the process is a clear challenge to John Brumby’s leadership and authority.
“Justin Madden is an incompetent Minister who doesn’t have the confidence of the Parliament, employed a convicted criminal in his office and covered up corruption being run out of his office.
“Victorians are sick of Labor’s refusal to take action to end the party’s culture of corruption and are now being told that an incompetent Minister who covered up corruption and cannot even manage his own office could be their next Premier.
“John Brumby has lost control of the Labor Party, which is now controlled by factional operatives who are protecting and promoting those involved in Labor’s culture of
corruption.
“Victorians are struggling with basic services such as health, transport, police and water, yet Labor is more interested in covering up corruption and finding jobs for Labor mates than securing the future of Victorian families,” Mr Davis said.
