Govt Does Nothing Until Coalition Releases Lobbyists Register Policy

DO NOTHING GOVERNMENT FOLLOWS COALITION POLICY – AGAIN

Three weeks after the Victorian Liberal Nationals Coalition announced its policy to immediately establish a register of lobbyists to ensure the highest standards of probity and integrity in Victorian public life, the Brumby Government has been shamed into finally fulfilling a Labor election promise made three years ago.

Labor paid lip service to the implementation of a lobbyists register, promising it at the 2006 election and again in 2007. Labor also promised a new all-party parliamentary committee at the 2006 election to investigate government integrity and recommend improvements. Read the rest of this entry »

Victorian Coalition Demands Axing of Wasteful Labor TV Ads

John Brumby should immediately cancel his wasteful Working Victoria advertising binge and redirect the millions of dollars in proceeds to Victorian hospitals, public transport and policing, Shadow Minister responsible for Scrutiny of Government David Davis said today.

Labor Lags on Lobbyist Register: 1,000 days overdue and still counting

John Brumby’s failure to introduce a register of lobbyists in Victoria marks 1000 days since Labor promised such a register in the 2006 election and is another black mark in Labor’s sorry record of hiding from public scrutiny.

Yarra Pollution Continues Unabated

The most recent measures of faecal pollution in the Yarra River showed disturbing levels of bacterial contamination in the last fortnight, with unacceptably high levels of E.coli at almost every sampling point on the river, Shadow Minister for Environment and Climate Change David Davis said today.

“Readings from the Yarra River taken on 5 August 2009 showed levels of faecal contamination massively above acceptable levels, a pattern repeated in almost every reading taken this year,” Mr Davis said. Read the rest of this entry »
